Human Rights Day South Africa pays homage to all those who lost their lives in the fight for democracy, particularly the Sharpeville Massacre of 21 March 1960.
The events of that day became a turning point in the fight against apartheid and today Sharpeville is also remembered as the place where Nelson Mandela signed the new Constitution in December 1996. Of our Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Chapter Two contains our Bill of Rights; which include:
